Quaker Steel The main problem of Maureen Frye is the unsuccessful implementation of her project, due to the resistance of her subordinates. Maureen tried to change the behavior patterns of the sales representatives and shift their sales efforts to big accounts, which made 85 percent of the dollar volume. There are several root causes that affect the current situation. Generally Maureen findings were strongly supported by the management. Maureen has been hired for a management position as an outsider, without previous experience with the company. She was the only woman manager at her level in the marketing and sales division. Even after two years in her current job, she continued to sense occasional resentment toward her, especially among the older people. Frye put the resistance she had encountered in getting people to implement her suggestions down to the fact that she was still an external and partially to the fact that she was a woman in an all-male environment. The company did not use direct autocratic control policy over its employees but rather provided general directions and expected responsible managers to make most decisions.
