Lights! Camera! Action! My paper will examine how Hemingway’s story, “The Killers,” was changed when it was adapted from the book to the movie screen, The Killers 1946” by Dr. Robert Siodmak. Once people read the book and watch the film, they will notice that the movie directors intended to make the viewer more interested in the story. For instance, I will describe the twist and turns that the director used in confusing you as to who really is guilty of these crimes and how people manipulate and use other people to their own benefit. I will explain how the short story tells it, and then I will describe how the movie director added to the film or changed things from the book. In the beginning of the film and the short story, which started out the same except for the location of the town, two hitmen named Al and Max come into the town looking for a man named Ole Anderson. They went past his place of employment and then to a diner where they were informed that Mr. Anderson knownd as Pete Lunds is always at the diner before 6:00 to eat. Al and Max harassed the men in the diner while they were waiting for Mr. Anderson to show up. When time past and Ole Anderson did not show up Al and Max left the diner and were headed to his hotel room. It was surprising that the hitmen left everyone in the diner alive after they tortured them and refused to let anyone come into the diner to eat. First, Max told the men in the diner that they were in the town to kill Ole Anderson which they never divulge to anyone and second, the hitmen would usually kill everyone that saw them so that they could not be identified to the police. It was very brave of his fellow worker from the diner to go to the hotel room to warn Ole about the hitmen coming to kill him. Ole Anderson was aware of the fact that the hitmen finally found him and there was not much for him to do. In fact he was tired of hiding out from these men.
