Much to be said for bilingualism
I HAVE been following with interest the controversy over the removal of mother-tongue grades from university admission criteria.
Responding to varied arguments from both sides - from people who would like to see bilingualism dropped entirely and those who are for its retention - Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong mentioned in his recent speech at the Chinese High and Hwa Chong Junior College (HCJC) anniversary celebrations (Mother tongue helps Spore retain Asian core; ST, March 22) that mother tongue helps us access what is critical in us. ...
Bilingualism is a big part of this potential mental enrichment.
