Manners are something used every day to make a good impression on others and to feel good about oneself. No matter where you are, at home, work, or with friends, practicing good manners is important. Good manners are more than opening doors and saying please and thank you. While opening doors for others and writing thank you notes is a nice way of practicing good manners, true courtesy and respect goes far beyond these acts. Asking a coworker or neighbor how their day was or asking if they need help with their groceries are even better ways of practicing good manners. Being polite and courteous means considering how others are feeling. Every culture, individual, and race has different morals to live by. Every person may have different rules or feelings about what good and bad manners are but really what everyone tries to achieve is the same. People in America today seem not to really care that much for table manners anymore. Many families only gather around the dinner table at holiday feasts, and most restaurants are too casual to require better than average table manners.
