Chapter one deals with the media and all of the general downsides that come with media involvement. Media is drawing us in in ways we’re not even aware of. ...

Even in a world that is filled with corrupt things, including the media we can find some good. The next main focus in this chapter is the upsides of the media. Believe it or not there are some positive benefits of the media. The media brings people together, helps us control our environment, allows us to express ourselves, it tears down walls that separate us from people, and also the media will satisfy you. We have to be very discerning about our media choices. ...
We are all left to make a choice about the side that we will take in this argument about the media. ...
As Christians we need to make media choices that are trustworthy, and things that are only going to help us with our walk with God. Sometimes it will be hard for us to find the best in media, but we need to be patient, because there are things that will help us in our life, and also our walk with God. ... They say “If you stay aware of what’s going on around you, your relationship with the media can be as enjoyable as a walk in the woods. ... Chapter two take some common phrases and quotes that relate to media and digs deeper into them to bring out the truth.
Many teens have the worldview of, “it’s just entertainment, the media doesn’t affect me, and the media just keeps me updated about society.” With each of these statements there are more points that will show what really is going on with media. ... ” Media, isn’t “just” entertainment. ...
Secondly, “The things we see and hear in the media don’t affect the way we act. ... Teens don’t have much control in their lives, so when media offers them some, they tend to run with it. ... This doesn’t always mean that a teen will go out and do everything they see on television or on a video game, but they are a lot more likely to do it then someone that doesn’t have media’s negative impact on them.
Thirdly, “Media simply reflects what’s going on in society.” People feel that it’s ok for the media to show what it’s showing because it’s simply what is going on around them. It’s the hard truth that people are getting pregnant, and people are drinking, but we shouldn’t have to let the media tell us. ... So, there is no reason for the media to make it even more known. ... These people are standing up for media and the bad that it is portraying. We, as Christians, need to focus on God and not stick up for the bad that the media offers. ...
Discernment simply means that you need to decide what you will and won’t allow to take root in your mind. We need to discern between the good things in the media and also the things that will lead us into the media jungle. ... Because we are always receiving things from the media discernment will be a full time “job.”
Media presents itself in two different ways. Media almost always has an obvious message and a hidden message. Obvious messages are common things and are usually the themes of media. ... We need to apply our Christian knowledge to even the media that we are involved in. God wants us to give him all of our mind, not just 90 percent. ... We have better relationships that we can be working on rather then our relationship with media. Chapter 12
The last chapter gives the reader a chance to evaluate what they learned by reading this book and it also give them time to evaluate their media choices. ... We need to help our friends and family that might be struggling with the media.
