The publics’ only contact with correctional nursing is what they have experienced by viewing the screen of a movie theater or the small screen of a television. This perception is very limited and not truly a complete picture of the roles and responsibilities of a correctional nurse. The greatest difference, in reality, is how inmates’ constitutional rights and court principles interact with nursing practice in the correctional setting. ... Inmates must rely on correctional authorities to meet their medical needs. It is through such developments that correctional nursing will continually grow and evolve in response to the changing circumstances in society.
