Scarlet Ibis

Scarlet Ibis Essay This is a story about a challenged young boy named Doodle and an older brother that torments him because he is not normal. Even though brother is so cruel to Doodle, Doodle tolerates it. In the short story, “Scarlet Ibis,” by James Hurst, it tells of a challenged boy and an abusive brother. Brother is only so cruel to Doodle because he knows Doodle is not normal. Like the obvious reason that Doodle can not walk. “…Although Doodle learned to crawl, he showed no signs of walking.” (Pg. 259.) Brother is cruel to Doodle because he feels Doodle is a threat to him.
