Macroeconomics In Tawas City, MI, the Board of Commissioners gave conditional approval to a plan to give up taxes to help Tawas City bring Wal-Mart to town. The city needs to make improvements to accommodate such a large commercial development and it will cost one million dollars. The city and county plan to borrow this money and then pay it back by pledging 100 percent of new property taxes generated by the development for 10 years. The residents are quite angry. They believe that the money needs to be spent in other community affairs. Other small business owners complained that if they had to get their own financing to put up their stores, a billion dollar corporation should pay for its own developments.
