In the play ‘Oedipus Rex’ by Sophocles’ we witness the unfailing energy with which Oedipus pursues the resolution of the murder of former King Lauis, even when it looks as though himself might be implicated. ... Oedipus’ nemesis is his passion for seeking the truth and knowledge, in his case this is dangerous which he later discovers. ... This is the very reason that Oedipus consults the oracle in the first place, after a drunken man accuses him that he “was not his father’s son.” Though he presumably did not use these words, Oedipus effectively asked the oracle “who am I? ... ” The answer he received was not quite welcome and it became dangerous. ... Oedipus decides to disrobe himself of his identity as loving son of Polybus and Merope, to adopt a non-identity as anonymous traveler.
