JFK’s speech is worthy of criticism because it is a strong speech that is narrow, clear, and simple; it also confronts a unique situation, which is in itself much larger than the speech and JFK as well. I think that JFK’s “Race for Space” speech is definitely worthy of criticism according to Hart. As Hart says in “Hart’s Guidelines,” a speech is worthy of criticism if the speech tells of something larger than the speech itself. ... The Space Race was no doubt a new topic of discussion at the time of this speech. ... In the speech JFK says, “We choose to go to the moon. ... ” This illustrates the “exploratory” nature of his speech and its subject matter. As for what Hart says about a speech being worthy of criticism needs to be about something larger than itself, this speech definitely does that.
