Essay 1 “Our government often represents the privileged few rather than the needy many… participating in elections and the activities of political parties and exercising the right to speak out are insufficient measures against the influences of corporate wealth (Parenti: 2).” According to this statement by one critic of American Democracy, there are a lot of strong arguments for and against this statement. Some people might think that this statement is true and are for this argument, but others might say that this statement is false and are against this statement. There are a couple of ways to look at the statement, but in general the statement basically says that American Democracy is influenced by the almighty dollar back in full by the corporate America. There are a couple arguments that are for this statement. Since corporations have millions and billions of dollars, they have money to spend. Corporations influence Democracy by giving Corporate Contributions, backing up a party or political figure with massive amounts of dollars for their views and cause. Since corporations donate that amount of money, many are swayed to think the way corporations think.
