Marie Curie
What would the world be like today without x-ray technology? ... Would the United States have made different military choices if Marie Curie never discovered radium? What would the world be like today if Curie had never come across the element radium? There were no more elements known to man, and no one thought there was anymore to be discovered until Curie’s discovery of this element. It was now all up to Curie to prove to the world that she had found this element. Marie Curie was a scientist whose discoveries benefitted human kind.
Marie Curie was born on November 7, 1867, in Warsaw, Poland. ... Curie was always a very smart girl, even as a young child she was interested in science. ... At home in Warsaw, Curie conducted her own simple science experiments. Curie and her sister wanted to move to Paris, France, to attend college at the Sorbonne. ... Curie’s sister made the move first, but soon after they had saved enough money to allow Curie to also make the move. ... If Curie had
not made this move, she would never have discovered radium. This is due to the fact that she met her future husband, Pierre Curie, who was also a scientist. ... As an assignment for Curie to receive her doctorate degree in physics, she had to write a thesis paper proving something about her topic. Curie had many questions about uranium and radiation.
