Analysis The labor relations that have plagued the Caterpillar Company will no doubt have a effect on the quality of the machinery, productivity of the workers and the innovation that is required to maintain leadership in their industry. Especially during the mid 1990¡¯s the company was making outstanding profits amidst labor disputes and layoffs. Termination of the Employee Satisfaction Process and unfavorable conditions of the current labor contract will further the rift between corporate goals and employee performance. The performance of Caterpillar is heavily tied to some key areas of interest such as the economic stability (consumer confidence), the amount of public funding for construction projects. Substantial performance elements that the book did not mention is that Caterpillar is also dependant on weather related matters that seriously retard many types of construction, thus effecting the amount of sales and rentals that Caterpillar would normally enjoy. The continuing improvements in e-commerce are important to the long-term financial success that Caterpillar could enjoy.
