Analytical Paper Assignment Sacrificing to the god of Employment Many people feel their personal lives have become sacrificed to the god of employment as a result of their time spent at work. It is not unusual to hear of individuals working twelve or more hours in a single shift, four to seven days per week in order to maintain their positions. Medical staff and sales are obvious occupations affected by this type of employment practice.(1) This environment depletes a person physically, mentally and emotionally. Without proper rest and adequate time off to pursue individual interests, a person can not be at their personal best. Their attitudes and productivity will suffer greatly. Using information furnished by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Erik Rauch has compiled a research paper with astounding results.(2) He has found that in order to equal the productivity of several decades ago, society need only reduce the amount of hours required of individuals to be on the job. A logical conclusion to this finding might be an increased positive feeling towards their jobs and employers if workers could have sufficient time for themselves and their families while maintaining a certain level of income. Dzeudet Hadziosmanovic, a software engineer, expresses a desire to 'find a wife or read a book' but because of his required work hours he feels there is insufficient time to do so.(3) Regretfully he maintains his employment in order to live and pay bills.
