I agree with the statement that the Robin Hood legend doesn’t tell us anything about medieval crime and punishment. The account of what he did doesn’t match to what other accounts say about other gangs.
There were no court records of daring crimes against King John or King Richard by the name of Robin Hood. There were crimes committed by people called Robin Hood or Robert Hood but no crimes were as serious or as daring as the legend says. The Robin Hood story is set in a dream world where he escapes capture after doing a lot of serious crimes where people would be certainly put to death. ...
His moto is ‘steal from the rich and give to the poor’, but in medieval times the poor were seen as easy targets to robbers and outlaws as the knights and noblemen were well protected against thieves.
