... In both Aristotle’s Poetics, and in Anaximander’s fragment, it is argued that Oedipus the King written by Sophocles sets the standard definition for tragedies. ... In Oedipus’s case, a short temper and lack of knowledge causes him to perform an action that later leads to undesirable consequences in turn, disrupting the balance in their world. In Oedipus the King, the hero Oedipus unknowingly comes to a new town and due to his short and ruthless temper, he kills the king Laius who unbeknownst to Oedipus is his birth father. After thoughtlessly killing Laius, his birth father and taking his place on the throne with Laius’s wife, Oedipus’s mother, the balance or adikaios in the lives of the townsfolk is disrupted causing famine and disease to set down upon them.
