The Defeat She has waited her entire life to have the opportunity to play in a game like this. She has wanted the adrenaline rush, the excitement, and the recognition of playing for a state soccer championship. This is the moment that every athlete dreams about. All that Melissa wants out of this game is the experience. As she joins her teammates in the locker room before the game feeling so nervous. Everyone is jumping around and dancing to music. Right then the coach walked into the room and silence fell over the group. He has always given them a talk before the game that usually consisted of formations, and players of the other team, but this was different. All he said was, “It doesn’t matter if you win or lose today. All that maters is that you walk off that field today holding your heads high with no regrets because you played your best.” And with those words they picked up their gear and left for the game.
