Several historical figures have had an impact on my life at some point in time, but an historical figure that has influenced my life and way of reasoning is Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Wells is an important and dynamic figure in black literary history. Born a slave, in Holy Springs, Mississippi, Wells-Barnett educates herself as a journalist, she became an avid reader and a skilled writer; she is an epitome of courage and of excellence. Emblematic of the rectitude, dependability, and fortitude that characterized her life, Wells struggles to provide for her siblings after loosing her parents, at the age of fourteen, to a tragic epidemic of Yellow Fever that swept over Holly Springs.
