A Birthday Remembered The story is about a lesbian woman called Ellen, it is her birthday and the daughter of her diseased girlfriend pays her a visit. It is hard to find a suitable theme, but is might easily be peoples’ conception of “what is love” or how to deal with the grief of loosing a loved one. Ellen was formerly in a relationship with another woman called Jackie. Jackie left her husband Roger to be with Ellen, and Roger was very displeased with that development. “ Ellen knew it was more an affront to his male ego than losing Jackie Particularly when it belonged to one who was striving ruthlessly to become a top business executive. When she left him, he had tried to declare her temporarily insane” . Roger is a typical guy, he did not care for nor love Jackie. He needed her to obtain a certain reputation and position in society. She was there probably just to look pretty at business functions. I assume that their relationship looked perfect from the outside, but underneath the shell, there were various problems. When Jackie left Roger, he more or less took offence, he thought about what other people would think, how his shell would like, and he did not like the conclusion. Because people would think that something must have been wrong with him, if he could not keep his woman satisfied, that it was so bad that he “turned her gay”.
