To fix our economy, we must stop exporting jobs By ERNEST HOLLINGS Guest columnist My trouble is that I can't get Congress to understand that there will never be a turnaround in our economic slump until we put a tourniquet on the flow of jobs heading offshore. Categorically, the job policy of the United States is to eliminate jobs as fast as we can. All jobs -- hard manufacture, service, high tech, agriculture -- except political and press jobs. The drain of American industrial strength began with the Marshall Plan after World War II. In rebuilding Europe and the Pacific Rim we sent Marshall Plan money, equipment and expertise to rebuild their economies. We opened our markets. We turned a blind eye to sales of imports below cost and transshipment violations. After all, in 1945 we had the only vibrant economy in the industrialized world, and in order to prosper, we had to promote prosperity abroad. This worked. Capitalism defeated communism in Russia and continues to take over in China. But like the media monopolization now on course, corporate America wanted more.
