Life, it is a fragile thing that can be changed, manipulated and even shattered by the introduction of just one person into it. Like the introduction of a predator into a sheltered biosphere, the entire balance of the individual may be upset by it, disrupting everything he ever knew, or thought he knew. In the story “tears, idle tears” by Elizabeth Bowen, however, this is not the case with Fredrick when he meets the girl that one not so fateful afternoon. I am not saying that she had no effect on him, in my limited grade 12 experiences; I have noticed that everyone affects everyone else, and it is the same in this story.
