Nearly all the women we encounter in the inferno are being punished for sins of a sexual nature. In analyzing the sins of specific women in the inferno, exploring roles of women in 14th century Italy, and exploring how the church viewed Sexuality and women in the 14th century, we will be able to assume that, in fact, women of Dante’s time were categorized as “sex objects” and thought of as little else. ...
