First, in order to understand how today’s theorists have developed the ideas of Hobbes, Marx, and Kant; their views will be presented. Hobbes believed that man is always in a state of nature, where every man is against every man therefore a common power must be established in order to keep all men in awe. ... The essence of the relevant philosophy for Marx is the exploitation of the many by the few that will eventually lead to self-realization of the proletariat causing the current capitalistic governing system to be replaced through the proletariat revolution with socialism and eventually communism. Furthermore, Marx placed high emphasis on the study of capitalistic from a historical perspective. Kant, on the other hand, idealized the role that individuals, states, or other actors can play in creating a world where universal law dominates over any other law based on moral and ethical norms. ... ”
Marx, Kant and Hobbes with their works have contributed towards the consolidation of the realist, liberalist and globalists’ perspectives. ...
Hobbes would identify the very idea of man’s state of nature as his contribution to the realist and globalist image of International Relations. Hobbes proclaimed that without a common power or an established government to bring about order in the society, man would always find himself in war with every man. ... He confirmed Hobbes’s beliefs that without a hegemon, there will be chaos and instability. ... Hobbes’s theory of anarchy is also taken into account by the globalists who believe that the effects of the absence of central authority in the international state system can further the development of world capitalism as a result of deeper integration and cooperation among states.
Hobbes would probably agree to some extent with the theories and approaches that have followed his contributions to the realists’ perspective. ...
Hobbes would most likely be satisfied to a certain degree with his theories and their application with the 21st century, however, there are limitations to his approach in the way world affairs are conducted. ... The existence of the United Nations as a world body with well-defined roles and responsibilities comes close to Hobbes’s idea of a world government that fosters peace and prosperity in the world. ... Hobbes would most likely disagree with such events since they do not fit in his model of a world where individual states abide by the rules of a well-defined central international authority.
One of the theories that Marx has set forth and would identify as his contribution is apparent when one considers the globalists’ continual concern of how the system of capitalism has historically developed and how it functions in today’s world.
