DEKADA ’70 Lualhati Bautista Amanda Bartolome is a mother of five sons and is married to Julian who is an engineer. She always does the chores and sometimes cannot relate to the conversations among the father and their sons. Julian always says, “ It’s a man’s world.” This line already discriminates the women. Everyone has the right to speak. Everyone has the right to share her opinion. There is a scene there when Julian’s friends are in their house and are talking about something when Amanda tried to share her opinion. I could not paint the face of Julian because he was shocked when her wife spoke. Amanda always tells her husband that she wants to work but his husband refuses because he alone can feed the family. He doesn’t see the point of her wife. She wants to work for self- achievement. Everyone wants to achieve something and not just serve her family. Also shown in the movie how women are treated like sex objects. Her husband called her just to have sex. Yes, it is important in a married couple but how Julian invites her to their room is not appropriate. He must be sweet and not angry. Another situation is between Isagani and Evelyn who have an offspring but their relationship did not work out so it was better for them to separate.
