In the 1950’s “Rock ‘n’ roll was just another product to be marketed like shampoo or deodorant. ... ” Portable record players and transistor radios gave instant and personal access to the new and exciting world of rock music, particularly, marketed at the youth, giving them the opportunity to “escape to their rooms and play their music. ... ” It is fair to say that television and rock ‘n’ roll music have always held a significant link, they both “arrived in Australia in 1956, and they have remained linked ever since. ... “Critics have been quick to portray rock ‘n’ roll as a vehicle for negative social change.” Many people believe that rock music promotes promiscuity, drug use and rebellion. ...
