John Von Neumann was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1903. He was born with the given name János von Neumann. His parent’s names were Max Neumann and Margarat Kann. He was born into a prosperous family and grew up well. Even as a child Neumann showed great signs of intelligence. He could crack jokes in Greek with his father at the age of six. At the age of eight he was able to multiply two eight-digit numbers in his head. There was no doubt he would go to a university. At the age of 10 he started his education at the Lutheran Gymnasium. His math teacher quickly saw Neumann’s talent and special tuition was requested for him. Neumann graduated high school in 1921. He was quickly accepted into the University of Budapest to study mathematics. At the same time Neumann enrolled into the University of Berlin to study chemistry. He achieved outstanding grades in his math exams, even though he hardly went to class. Neumann received his chemistry diploma in 1926. By the time Neumann was twenty- two he already had an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering and a Ph.D.
