They thought why couldn’t she just attend an all black college at home where she would “graduate, become a school teacher, make a decent living and a good marriage. ... It may be difficult task for them to let go of such a close knit relationship, to be able to let their child out into the real world where they would be able to experience things on their own, to be able to make their own decisions and make something of themselves. ... My parents wanted me to be close to home and I unapproved of this because that was the opposite of what I wanted.
