The Scope of Human Physiology:
Broadly speaking, human physiology is the study of the functions of the human body at all levels of organisation [bm1]; that is, from how the shape and electrical properties of individual proteins allow them to function, to complex processes which depend on the interplay of many different organs and organ systems in the body. In other words, physiology considers the physical and chemical processes responsible for vital functions and the characteristics of life that enable us to maintain a constant internal environment; a process known as homeostasis [bm2]. ... The organ systems comprise the total organism (human being).
