Night
by: Elie Wiesel
In Elie Wiesel’s book, “Night”, the struggle that the characters are facing, in regards to beliefs, is a recurring theme. In the book, young Elie is torn between his beliefs in God and what seems to be reality. Before the war, before being deported, and before the horrific truths he had to face, Elie has a naive yet, strong faith in God. Elie soon loses his faith but, buried beneath the burning bodies of his fellow Jew, Elie finds God again. Elie was not the only one to face these ambevalant emotions, most prisoners were torn as well.
For instance, most prisoners try to cope with their situation by prayer and talking to God. As the others cling on, Elie ceases to pray. Elie sees death, pain, and suffering.
