1600s leaders

Global essay Throughout history, each country has had either their rises of success, or complete downfalls. A leader is the main person in charge of making their country fail or succeed. In order to be a solid leader you must show strengths politically economically and culturally within your country. In the 1600’s France was a powerhouse. It clearly stood apart from the rest of the European countries in that time period. Louis XIV and Jean Baptise Colbert were brilliant men, who perfected France in a political, economical and cultural aspect that no other country could compare to. France was a united, strong nation; it was clearly the most successful nation of the 1600’s. “L’ etat c’est moi”, I am the state. Louis XIV said this at the very beginning of his dominating reign. He had started boasting, stating that he and the state were the same. Although Louis XIV came out as a cocky, arrogant leader, he got the job done, and truly was “the state” during his reign. Every great country has a great army for defense. Louis XIV made sure that his country was well protected, and had the finest army in all of Europe. The army contained about 400,000 people, not only did the army have more people; it also was far ahead of other states’ armies in training, and weaponry. Louis made sure that his people were well protected. Any solid army has size, and years, and years of training, Louis made sure that his army could go up against anyone.
