CHICAGO (Monday, March 8, 2004) – U.S. Women's National Team head coach April Heinrichs has named 20 players to the roster that will depart for Portugal on Wednesday to participate in the 2004 Algarve Cup. The U.S. Women just returned from the CONCACAF Final Round Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Costa Rica last Saturday after earning one of the regions two berths to Athens, Greece. The U.S. went on to win the regional championship with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over fellow Olympic qualifier Mexico. Heinrichs chose 17 of the 20 players that were in Costa Rica, as veterans Joy Fawcett and Kristine Lilly will not travel to Portugal while 19-year-old forward Heather O’Reilly will travel to China with the U.S.
