Time codes
All broadcast tape formats have time code. The time code is generated internally by the machine and recorded along with the picture and sound and is used to identify each individual frame of video recorded.
Time code is displayed as hours : minutes : second : frames and is recorded in two different locations – a dedicated, longitudinal audio track – Linear Time Code (LTC) and in the vertical blanking interval – Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC).
