The 1940’s The 1940’s was a time of heartache and war. There were six major leaders that we will talk about during this time. The very important patriots were: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, General George S. Patton, Jr., Louie Armstrong, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Jackie Robinson. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president. He was born January 30th, 1882 in Hyde Park New York and die April 12, 1945 in warm springs Georgia, while still in office. In 1905 he married Eleanor Roosevelt. They had six children (one dying in infancy). He was paralyzed by polio in 1921; Roosevelt could not stand or walk with out any assistance. FDR graduated from Harvard university, 1904, & attended Columbia University Law School. He then practiced law in NYC. His political career is very extensive starting in 1910 & ending with his assassination in 1945. He was NY senator 1910-1913, Asst. Sec. of the Navy 1913-1920, also an unsuccessful candidate for the VP in 1920.
