The Days of the Phoenix is a beautiful lyric poem about a time, perhaps long ago, in which the speaker is reminiscing about a time in his life, which he wishes he could go back to. I suppose this happens to everyone at some point, and somehow, just as Daveys lyrics say, they fall into yesterday, while trying so hard to relive those past days, and fall out of their current life. ...
I believe I would call this an Ode, as the "Phoenix" theyre talking about is most presumably the Phoenix theater, a club which they commonly played in their early days, and still do now, so its an ode to the Phoenix, and their times there.
