Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty, for those who create it, is an individual art form. In my opinion it is difficult to express our individuality and create our to their hair, as illustrated in Veronica Chamber’s essay “Dreadlocked.” Some would even further cut out some “magic tape” to affix onto their eyelids to make them seem bigger and prettier, as described in Janice Mirikitani’s piece “Recipe.” These two articles relate to what beauty today can be described in many different ways. But because of the widespread racial stereotyping of what is beautiful, many people of different races go through viewing their racial norms of beauty as a negative appearance. When people change the way they are and the way they look to fit in, it’s a misfortune. Many different races have to follow a certain stereotype to what is beautiful. According to many, beauty can be defined as a certain composition of color and figure that causes delight to the beholder. But because many are forced into a typical image, they are not able to express their own beauty. For example, in the essay “Recipe,” in order to become more Americanized the ingredients to round eyes are: “ scissors, scotch magic transparent tape, eyeliner-water based, black.
