This paper discusses the position of Saudi Arabia on two issues. ... This paper also provides background information on Saudi Arabia. Things such as the economy, religion and political connections are mentioned. We will review the relationship of both issues to the country by current events and treaties that Saudi Arabia has singed with other countries on these issues.
Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy ruled by King Fahd bin Abdel-Aziz Al Saus since 1982. Saudi Arabia’s economy is heavily dependent on oil. Saudi Arabia has the largest petroleum reserves in the world. Saudi Arabia’s petroleum sector accounts for about 75% of its budget revenues and 45% of its gross domestic product (GDP). It’s GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power parity is $10,500, for a country as rich as Saudi Arabia this is a low GDP per capita number. ... Saudi Arabians are $ 200 billion in dept. ... Saudi Arabia is member of the Arab league and is also a friend of the United States and supports the United States’ Middle Eastern policies. One hundred percent of Saudi Arabians are Muslims. Saudi Arabia generally sides with the United States on issues of terrorism but on Middle Eastern policies regarding the state of Israel, they side with the Palestinians. Saudi Arabia mostly shares a strong cultural, political and economic connection with nations like Kuwait and Yemen. The illicit traffic of drugs is a major current issue in Saudi Arabia. ... There are a couple of current events in Saudi Arabia that support this issue. One issue is that two Pakistanis were beheaded in Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking. ... Saudi Arabia has had a strong policy to eliminate drugs from its country. ... In June of 2001, an armed seven member Saudi drug trafficking band was convicted to sentences including beheading, long term jail sentences and the least punished were whipped for selling drugs in the country.
