George needs Lennie as much as Lennie needs George. Discuss. ...
George Milton and Lennie Small are two travelling ranch workers during the Great Depression in America 1930~{! ... Lennie, the enormous man, ~{! ... /~} is a childlike character who relies on George for various things, such as food, shelter, and employment. On the other hand, George, he is a ~{! ... /~} He is wise, and he needs Lennie for companionship and shares a vision with Lennie for their future.
Throughout the story, it clearly shows physically, that Lennie does need George~{! ... Does this word mean more to George than it does to Lennie?
Firstly, we begin with Lennie. Ways in which he needs George are, like I said above- shelter, food and employment. At the beginning of the novel, Lennie begins to complain about the fact that there is no ketchup and in addition to his complaining George admits to Lennie that himself (George), would prefer to live on his own- ~{! ... Then in response, Lennie begins to get mad with George, and he angrily explains to George that himself (Lennie), could go and live in a cave somewhere on his own. After this, George smartly asked Lennie how he would get food, as he doesn~{! ... But Lennie dismisses what George said and he proclaims that he doesn~{! ... He is trying to show George that he would survive, but George knows that he wouldn~{!/~}t survive, as he has known Lennie so long. The ways in which Lennie behaves towards George would be the same way a pet would behave towards its owner. George tells Lennie off for various things- like forgetting things and Lennie would plead that he is sorry. But the question here is-Is Lennie loyal to George purely to get to tend the rabbits? Or does Lennie have real human affection towards George?
As George has known Lennie for a brave while, he knows what Lennie is and could be capable of.
