Value Statement Some teams may decide to formulate a collective team value statement that is separate from the larger organization or group. This statement can incorporate values similar to the organization, but would define specific values unique to the team. The following is our team values statement: We are committed to the completion of our mission and objectives by displaying an attitude of integrity, trust and honesty to the organization and each member. We value the fact that a diverse team makes for diverse ideas and helps formulate insight to solve complex problems and solutions. The team objectives are a break down of our overall mission statement into smaller, more defined goals in which we could incorporate into a strategy. For example, we chose to evaluate select academic models to explain how an efficient team operates, examine the role of leadership within the team dynamic, and develop a plan to incorporate the concerns of all members. During the development of our objectives, we journeyed through the “Differentiation Stage” of the Competence Model (SGC Consulting Group, Appendix-2). All members took on risk through the development, disclosure, and experimentation of ideas. Viewpoints were supported through the clarification, affirmation, and effective communication of ideas. Our experience was structured very similar to this segment of the model, specifically in regards to the challenging of ideas to attain a high level of output. Stage 3, within the Team Performance Model, exhibits the interdependency of adjoining stages and identifies goal clarification as a decisive means of defining a purpose (Drexler/Sibbet, 1987). Frequently, teams make the mistake of assuming everyone agrees on the group’s goals and is operating on the same premises.
