L’Arc de Triomphe The Arc de Triomphe is a great amazing and historical monument is French history. The arc was built to Honor the emperor Napoleon and soldiers who conquered most of Europe during the early 1800’s. Napoleon first decided to make the arch in 1806, but it wasn’t finished until 1836. The Arc de Triomphe was modeled off of the Roman Triumphal arches, which were constructed so that victorious Roman emperors could hold parades which marched right through them. This monument will be in France for as long as it exists. When the Arc was completely finished it stood over 150 feet high its sides were decorated with many sculptures that depicted the battles of Napoleon.
