meeting with tragedy

U.S.-Japan relations have been passing through about 150 years . While the United States and Japan possess different political status , ways of seeking national-interest s as well as history, geopolitical concerns and international situation are the important variables for the relationship between United States and Japan. Geopolitical concerns and international situation are varied in different period of times, therefore, the relations between United States and Japan always change and the meanings are incremental. Their relations in the Second World War reflect that. With geopolitical concern, the Japanese government avoided direct conflict with the United States, but at the same time, the Japanese economic needs and political status were also important, therefore, the Japanese government held many talks to promote ‘the New Order of East Asia ’ in order to gain recognition by the United States, but the United States rejected it. In the economic aspect, it was necessary for Japan to employ expansionism. Japan enjoyed prosperity during the time of First World War. However, Japan underwent hard times in before the Second World War. By 1920, the cost of living rose rapidly, it brought economic hardship to its people, when Tokyo earthquake in 1932 killed thousands of people and caused serious economic loss, 1927 bank crisis led economic depression continued and Great Depression was a peak to their worsening situation, Japan militarism emerged . While surplus population could not sustain by the economy, ‘advance into world markets and expansion of territory ’ were the main solution to the problem.
