Today, we are again seeing problems arise from priests who are not following the strict rule of celibacy. Recently Catholic Church leaders are in the news because of sexual abuse cases, consensual sex among adults and those that leave the priesthood to marry. There has been discussion of the practice of celibacy and if the pope should review it and make some serious changes. The newsletter that the Archdiocese of Boston prints, recently published an editorial in which questioned “If celibacy were optional, would there be fewer scandals of this nature in the priesthood? ...
Although there is not strong evidence that supports the practice of celibacy leads to sexual abuse, it is obvious that people are concerned and starting discussions because of the criminal activities that have surfaced.
