On the Friday preceding the commencement of the “Flour Baby Project” my Mother drove me to the local A&P, laughing hysterically at the absurdity that I had to specifically pick out a type of flour and have reason for doing so. ...
Finally, after quite a while, I found the perfect bag of flour for my “baby. ... ” When I was born, I was a very, very white baby. ... Yet another factor that led to my choosing of my “America’s Choice” flour baby was the lettering on the bag itself. ... Though a smaller reason for my choice, the pink was a nice touch since I was going to be simulating having a baby girl.
Over that weekend, I spent 6 quality hours with my baby preparing it. These six hours included sewing stockings to make arms and legs, using stockings to make a head by inserting a styrofoam ball inside, attaching the arms and legs to the flour (which was, at that point, within a plastic bag), making a face using felt and paint and string, and dressing the baby with borrowed clothing from my half-sister, who has two children of her own.
