There are many views on how immigrant came and lived on the United Sates during the progressive Era. We have learned these perspectives through the art of motion pictures and text. Immigrants had many reasons to come to the United Sates. Once here, some were surprised by how life really was. Some found that the United States wasn’t as great as they were told. Many immigrants were promised many things if they came to live here. In the movie Far and Away, the characters Joseph and Shannon wanted to move to the United States for numerous reasons. One the reasons why Shannon wanted to come to the United States was so she could claim her own land in the land race. Immigrants from all over the world heard the news of free land in the United States and wanted apiece of there own, though some were unaware of what they had to do to get it.
