Everyone is at risk for alcoholism and alcohol-related problems. College students, though, are at high risk for alcohol-related problems and alcoholism because of their drinking behaviors. Some of the reasons that they are at high risk are: Some college and university customs, norms and traditions encourage specific dangerous alcohol use practices and patterns. For example, drinking games and pledge activities involving Greek life. ... The most immediate death threat to a college student is an alcohol-related automobile crash. ... Young people are more susceptible to drinking to the point of memory lapse than older people. Twenty-six percent of 18-25 year olds reported that they were unable to remember what happened at least once in the last year due to drinking. ... (NIRSA)
Alcohol not only affects the body, but also effects a college student in there academics. ... On average the more a student drinks the lower his/her grades will be. More than 10% of the students who drink say that drinking interfered with their academic work. ... The typical college student spends more money on alcohol than books! ...
