I enjoyed this film as it showed the truths hidden in the corporate world, that the corporate world can try to enforce upon anyone it so desires including other corporations or entities resembling corporations, but the legal bounds that corporations can place upon its employees first of all are the initial and major hurdle if there is information that is important for the welfare of the general public but that is not in the interests of the corporation, and if that information is to be exposed. Jeffrey Wigand had been a scientist at the Brown and Williamson Tobacco company and obviously the company wanted to protect its interests so they signed a confidentiality agreement with Jeffrey Wigand, which he has to keep, and rightfully so. However after Lowell Bergman gets in touch with Mr. Wigand on his tobacco assignment, after which B & W decide to extend the confidentiality agreement or Mr. Bergman has to face the loss of his benefits and his job. This kind of manipulation by corporations and in this case by B & W gives a bad impression about the extent corporations are willing to go for their greed no matter what the cost to society. In fact pressure on its employees and their manipulation that way is a small example of what B & W would have done and generally what corporations can do with their power to protect their financial interests. Now the other side to this are the forces that counter balance or definitely try to bring out the truth or justice in most cases depending on how far those forces are willing to go.
