A limousine driver driving an actress, a couple stuck in a rain storm, a cop carrying a serial killer, a family, and a hotel manager set the tone for one of the best movies of 2003. Identity is a truly one of a kind psychological thriller that takes the audience on a incredible ride through the mind of a serial killer that his insanity could actually prove his innocence. James Mangold’s Identity is one of the best films in recent years to tap into the mind of a person with a physiological problem. This film relies on its sense of surprise, so I will do my best to not give away too much and ruin it. Ten travelers end up in a Nevada motel on rainy night. The roads are flooded and the phone lines are down. There is the former cop-turned chauffeur (John Cusack) transporting a egotistical former film star (Rebecca DeMornay). A nerdy husband (John C. McGinley), wife (Leila Kenzle), and son get a flat tire and the wife gets hit by Cusack’s car . A prostitute (Amanda Peet) who is moving home to start over is stranded when her car dies in the rain. A young couple, just married in Vegas is also pulled into the circle. All end up at an eerie hotel with a weird manager and a odd cop (Ray Liotta) who is transporting a violent killer (Jake Busey.) All they have in common is that they all have the same birthday. This is one of a series of coincidences, plot-twists, clues, and sudden deaths that these strangers will go through. Most of what is happening at the hotel makes no sense, but leaves viewers with a very spooky feeling wondering what is to come next.
