The US Confederate Flag
The Confederate Flag, for many, is representative of the negative aspects of the south since it is believed to embody the horrendous institution of slavery. However, there are those that feel a sense of pride when discussing what the Confederate Flag represents to them. It continues to be a controversial subject among US citizens due to the animosity that arises when the flag is discussed. In this paper, I will attempt to analyze the history surrounding the Confederate Flag, the citizens that take pride in it’s symbolism, the negative association that many African Americans ( and whites as well) make with the flag, and the sentiments that are evoked when I think about what this flag means to me.
The sole intention of creating the Confederate Flag was to establish a symbol that represented the Confederate states of America while still designing a flag as similar as possible to the American Flag. Many Confederate Flags were created, and after much deliberation, the final flag was created. ... It was referred to as the Beaurgard’s battle flag. ... The white stars were the most important aspect of the flag.
