It had been a month since Jessica Doyle’s parents died. Jessica was terrified. She always saw family members dying on TV but never imagined her own. Jessica was thinking about this like she often does when alone. There was a light ‘pat pat’ of rain as it hit the window sill next to Jessica’s bed. Jessica let out a sigh and the bed creaked. Her gloomy bare room was unwelcoming but that was life, as Jessie kept telling herself. A car sped past the window making a noise but dying again, to a quite, rainy Sunday morning. Grandma was yet to come home from buying the daily papers. There wasn’t much to do at Grandma’s house. Grandma never had enough money to decorate and furnish and all her parent’s things were still in the basement.
