In the book The Land by Mildred D Taylor, there was still a lot of segregation. ... Filmore Granger
In the last part of the book Paul finds the land he wants to own, and he is doing everything he can to get enough money to buy it. One way he was going to get money was by selling the land he had been working on getting from Filmore Granger. Granger promised Paul that if he cut down all the trees in forty acres within two years, Paul could own the land. When he had almost finished clearing the land, Granger found out he was going to buy his grandfathers land. His grandfather’s land was Paul’s dreamland. Granger decided he did not want Paul owning that land so he took back his land so Paul could not sell it, and therefore could not buy his grandfathers land.
