C.E.L Atticus Finch
‘To kill a Mockingbird’ is a fictional novel written by Harper Lee. This novel is mainly about a man called Atticus Finch, who tries to change his county’s views on black people, as most of them are very racist, though not all of them. ... In my opinion Atticus is ‘’…not a run of the mill man…’’. ... Atticus does not boast about these talents, he is a gentleman who tries to keep to himself. Atticus is different from most of Maycomb’s residents as most of them are prejudiced, narrow minded and racist in their outlooks, whereas Atticus holds no grudges against anyone and he is not prejudiced, narrow minded or racist in anyway. ...
Atticus story is narrated to us by his young daughter Scout, as the story is told from her perspective. ... Maycomb is a close community therefore Scout knows the views and opinions of other characters and this means that the impression that we get of Atticus is not limited.
Atticus is ‘not a run of the mill man’ as he has lots of different skills and qualities. ... Atticus has had to raise his children by himself because he is a widower as his wife died soon after Scout was born. Atticus has brought up his children with out telling them any lies, and he has taught them valuable lessons about life and people as they have grown up.
Atticus is quite strict but fair and has a good sense of humour. ...
An example of Atticus fairness is in chapter nine, when Scout and Francis (Scout’s cousin) break into a fight. Atticus’s brother only listens to Francis side of the fight and so he smacks Scout. Then Scout tells him what really happened and he realises that he was not fair, and Scout says ‘When Jem an’ I fuss Atticus doesn’t ever just listen to Jem’s side of it, he hears mine to’ this shows us that Atticus is very fair.
